a boy named sue

my mom gave me a puppy for christmas. (I don't have any good pictures of him because my camera is broksies, but he is really adorable/ridiculous.) I named him Sue.
I think I will have my camera fixed relatively soon though, and that will be nice.

I made and baked stuff to give to others for Christmas. I wish I could post pictures of some of it but I can't, still I hope it's all being enjoyed!

until later, happy final days of 2009.

break

FACTS:

+college year 2, semester 1= complete
+major= changed
+camera= broken
+my house= cold

I don't have anything particularly "blog worthy" at the moment. Mostly I have been busy with work and school.
When I do have free time I kind of like just doing nothing. (And it consequently makes me feel a little embarrassed when people ask me things like, "What have you been up to?")

On the bright side, I did sell half of the creature-things I sewed that were featured in the Red Tree Gallery. I am also working on 5 "custom orders."
Hopefully I will have a (digital) camera again soon and I will be able to photograph the final results.

So, that's all I've got for now. Three cheers for winter break.

promo?

Tomorrow night there will be a gallery opening that will include work from a number of USC photography students and from my older brother (Matthew Mullen), as well as some stuff that I made. It's at the Red Tree Gallery in Winnsboro, SC.
There will also be a show featuring Nikolai Oskolkov's music and art at the 145 Club, which is right next to the gallery.

I may or may not be there, due to my current work schedule, but I really want to be.
.. but I figure it will be a good time.

slow times

.. my new downstairs neighbor's dogs are constantly howling louldly, and I can not sleep. (I know complaining about it is lame, especially on a blog)
I think I might poison their dogs though.
(kidding..)
..here's some doodlin' from slow times while I'm working..

so sad

Yesterday I accidentally dropped my digital camera on the kitchen floor and I have not been able to fix it. The lens will not attach properly and the aperture won't adjust, so if I can manage to make it take a photo, it turns out really under exposed.
BLAH.

these pictures aren't my favorite or anything, but they were the last things on my memory card prior to when I dropped the camera (so maybe that makes them more important... I dunno):

this was a car in a Walmart parking lot..

and these are a flock of birds

I'm kind of bummed, because I liked having that camera with me, but hopefully I'll find an (inexpensive) way to fix it without having to purchase a new lens.

... on the bright side, I do have a film camera now.

my very first film roll

I got a film camera for birthday a while back... I've never really used one (except once as a child I received a Spice Girls camera for Christmas... but mostly I just took bad close-ups of my family/pets with it, and it broke soon after I received it because my cousin dropped it while we were slipping and sliding on a frozen pond)
ANYWAY, guess that's another story, and I don't really know if my Spice Girl camera experience counts.

I don't have much camera knowledge at all, but I do like taking pictures of things, so hopefully I'll learn more, and here are some pictures from my very first roll of film:

nerdherd

this was another real conversation.. although it was more like a monologue... sorry if it's hard to read.

... sometimes I wish I was serious in the way that kids are.

Other note of the day- I had the pleasure of watching, "Grizzly Man," for English class.
... it's pretty bizarre and I'd say it's worth watching.

perverted justice

Today in newspaper writing class I was introduced to a site that is both apalling and highly entertaining: perverted-justice.com.
We were prompted to discuss the ethics of covering a special on this site... but mostly I just doodled pictures of "perverts" featured on the site. (Sorry, J-School)

dinner conversation

this made me laugh while I was babysitting today, so I made a quick comic-y thing

the last unicorn: great movie, or greatest movie?

FACT: children will watch the same movie over and over (andoverandover) without getting sick of it.
.... The girls that I babysit have a profound love for The Last Unicorn.
..no worries though. This movie is surprisingly awesome.
Of course, we watched it yet again today.
(the (pre-energydrink) Red Bull drives all unicorns from the land into the sea, just so you know.)

.. then later in the night I started re-reading The Wind-up Bird Chronicle. (the first chapter's title was, "6 Fingers and Four Breasts.")

(yup, it's an exciting life I lead.)

misc.

For most of this week I did not have a usable bike. This resulted in me walking most everywhere, since I really don't like driving and I am kind of terrible at it. Walking was pretty cool, because I noticed a bunch of things that I pass everyday that I had never noticed before. (I did have to get up exceptionally early though, because my classes begin at 8/ 9 and I live a little less than 2 miles away from campus.)
... and although I noticed a variety of things, the amount of dead animals on the sidewalk threw me a little.

Also, this ice-cream truck was parked on Greene Street the other day, carnival music playing and all. It looked a little suspicious... just sayin'. (and isn't it the wrong season for ice-cream trucks?)

I also started a new job this week (I am still a babysitter (2.o!) as well)
If you live in Columbia, you can probably guess where I will be til the wee hours of the morning:

It's pretty cool though... and at the end of the shift I will end up with entirely too many cookies to take home, so if you're jonesin' for (free) cookies at around 3 am, I am the person to talk to.
.
AND (finally, right?) I received this as I walked down Greene Steet today. (I know it's blurry because my scanner has been acting funky)
... and I know that its purpose is to preach God's word (or something like that), but upon first reading it I thought they'd referred to "God" as Yehaw, which entertained me for a good couple of minutes.

... I don't know why those pamphlet-toting evangelist always look so sad/angry or why most of them have terrible dental hygiene, but I really hope that they are content.

better late than never?

I know that it has already been November for about three days, but these are pictures documenting (last minute) costume making:
... My friend was Woody for Halloween and I made a (cow print) vest complete with a pull string:

And this is what happens to a bathroom when a SPAGETT wig is made:

... and I saw these cards in Target. Not sure why, but they made me laugh a little. (and yes, those are the actual inside greetings.)

the past two days have been an all around good time.
On Thursday I went to Asheville to see Why? and traipsed around the Blue Ridge region.
some pictures from along the way:
We went apple picking at "Grandma's Apple Orchard"

and Ziggy joined us on the journey
Downtown Asheville:
A line of segways (sp?):

... On Friday Amy and I hosted Monster Bash at our house, the party that followed the Monster Mass bike ride.

My Halloween costume:
SPAGHET!

The next day:
Also, to whoever wrote on my kitchen wall in sharpie, congratulations. Your work really complements the kitchen well.
yeah, so other than the existence of jerk-faces who write on kitchen walls, it was a blast.
